Understanding Third-Party Reproduction Care

You’re well supported

Surrogacy (Gestational Carriers)

We work hand-in-hand with you (the intended parents), your chosen surrogate consultant, and your chosen surrogate to coordinate the surrogacy process and provide supportive medical protocols to help you achieve healthy conception and pregnancy.

Intended parents and surrogates are often referred to Generation Fertility by their surrogate consultant for our team’s considerable experience in compassionately navigating the required medical protocols to achieve a successful pregnancy. Sometimes patients start with a Generation Fertility physician to investigate infertility challenges and surrogacy is recommended.

  • We provide a strong support process which can include:

  • Consultation on the surrogacy process, key steps and parties involved, and medical aspects

  • Guidance on selecting the right surrogate consultant and related services

  • Coordination of medical protocols and related support for intended parent(s) and surrogate including assessments, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, post-conception monitoring if required

Egg donation

Rest assured our caring staff and established processes for treatments using donor eggs has resulted in successful outcomes for many patients.

We are experienced in working closely with your chosen egg donor agency or egg bank to provide screening, egg retrievals and/or additional medical protocols to support patients to healthy conception.

The Generation Fertility team is recognized for its expertise in facilitating available paths for egg donation.

Egg donation (also referred to as ovum donation) may be recommended where there is a concern with providing your own egg, such as with diminished ovarian reserve due to age, peri-menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency, or with risk of a genetically transmitted disorder. Egg donation is also a solution for male-only family groups, including single men.

Fresh egg donation is the process where the egg donor undergoes the egg retrieval procedure here at the clinic and all retrieved eggs are then donated to the intended parent. These eggs can be fertilized with patient, partner, or donor sperm to create embryos.

There are two types of fresh egg donation, with a Designated egg donor or with an Anonymous egg donor through an egg donor agency:

Designated (Known) egg donor

Where you’ve identified a wonderful individual who wishes to support you as an egg donor, the Generation Fertility team will support you – the intended parent(s) – and the donor through a Health Canada regulated process that ensures everyone’s safety and supports successful outcomes.

Our support to you includes:

  • Comprehensive egg donor screening to ensure eggs can be used for reproduction

  • Guidance to complete required counseling session with a Registered Social Worker and referral to fertility lawyer to establish an optional known egg donor legal agreement

  • Coordination of medical procedures and related support for intended parent(s) and donor including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo creation, embryo transfer to intended parent or surrogate, if required

Anonymous donor through an egg donor agency

An egg donor agency helps you find a suitable anonymous egg donor with the intention to complete a fresh egg donation. With this process, the Generation Fertility team’s support for you includes:

  • Recommendations for leading egg donor agencies who can work on your behalf to secure a viable egg donor

  • Coordination with the egg donor agency to screen the egg donor following Health Canada regulations to ensure eggs can be used for reproduction

  • Collaboration with the egg donor agency on a medical protocol to work with the donor’s cycle for ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval

  • Medical procedures and related support for intended parent(s) including fertilization, embryo creation, embryo transfer to intended parent or surrogate, if required

Frozen Egg Donation: Working with an Egg Bank

You may choose to work with an egg bank as this path tends to shorten the length of time to receive the eggs – when you select the donor their eggs have already been retrieved and frozen.

With frozen egg donation through an egg bank, the ReproMed Fertility team’s support for you includes:

  • Recommendations for egg banks that follow Health Canada regulations

  • Guidance on selecting an egg donor, purchase and shipping arrangements

  • Medical procedures and related support for intended parent(s) including fertilization, embryo transfer to intended parent or surrogate, if required
